The 1996 Subaru Legacy is offered in four trims - the L, LS, 2.5 GT and LSi. Like any other Legacy models, this year's Legacy comes as all-wheel drive vehicle with standard safety features that includes dual airbags and side-impact protection. All Subaru Legacy models are loaded with standard equipments that include air conditioning, power door locks and windows, driver and passenger airbags and an AM/FM stereo cassette.

 

The Legacy's new 2.5 GT model is offered with a 155-horsepower DOHC engine, a rear spoiler, sport-tuned suspension and 5-spoke alloy wheels. The anti-lock brake system is standard on all models except on the L version that offers ABS as an enticing option. The L model is equipped with a 2.2-liter engine generating 135 horsepower and a 5-speed manual transmission with a "hill holder".

 

Another main attraction for 1996 is the all-wheel drive Outback wagon that comes with taller roofs, new grille, white-spoked wheels and a suspension that has been raised to achieve 7.3 inches ground clearance. On the other hand, the LSi wagon receive a new 155-horsepower from its 2.5-liter flat 4-cylinder engine and a 4-speed automatic that comes standard.
